Let’s talk about halogen quartz lamps. If you need to move a lot of heat, fast, these are your best bet. Basically, we take a tungsten filament, wrap it in high-purity quartz, and add a bit of halogen gas. That gas is the secret sauce. It stops the filament from evaporating too quickly, which means we can crank up the heat without the whole thing burning out on you. Getting the power right Here is the thing: your voltage, wattage, and the length of the tube all play together to decide how much heat you’re actually getting. If you go with 230V or 400V, you can hit your target temperatures in a matter of seconds. It’s incredibly fast. Plus, higher voltage means you can pull less current for the same amount of power, which keeps your wiring from becoming a nightmare. But be careful. If you jam too much wattage into a tiny space, you’ll fry your lamp holders. Make sure your cooling system can actually handle the heat building up around that quartz tube, or you’re asking for trouble. The build and the bits We use quartz for a reason. It lets short-wave IR pass right through without soaking it up. Depending on what you’re doing, we can add coatings to shift the heat spectrum or just give the glass some extra protection. When it comes to plugging them in, we usually stick with R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re standard for most industrial ovens, so they just slide right in. No gaps, no loose fits, and—most importantly—no arcing at the terminals. Putting them to work You’ll see these all over the place for things like curing plastics or blowing PET bottles. The best part? The response time. You can flip the heat on and off almost instantly. It gives you a level of control over your material that you just don’t get with slower systems. One last tip—and this is a big one.Don’t touch the glass with your bare hands. Quartz is picky. The oils from your skin leave invisible marks that create “hot spots.” Once you turn the lamp on, those spots can cause the tube to crack. It’s frustrating and expensive. Just wipe them down with some alcohol before you wire them up, and you’ll be golden.
