Why shortwave IR actually matters
The goal is to get the moisture out of the fabric without cooking the fibers. We lean heavily on shortwave emitters. Why? Because they punch through the fabric much faster than medium-wave options. It means you can crank up your line speed and still be confident that everything is bone-dry by the time it hits the end of the line.
Let’s talk hardware
When we’re picking a lamp, it all comes down to the wattage-to-length ratio. If you cram too much wattage into a short tube, you get an intense heat density that can be hard to manage. Then there’s the power. Whether you’re on 230V or 400V, your wiring and contactors have to be able to handle that initial surge of current from the halogen filaments. Get the voltage wrong, and you’re either under-heating your fabric or watching a brand-new lamp die in a couple of weeks.

High-output quartz lamps are great, but they’re finicky. They give you the heat you need for synthetic blends, but they’re fragile. One tiny misalignment in the holder or a bit too much vibration in the stenter frame, and snap—there goes your tube. Plus, here is a pro tip: check your reflector angles every time you swap a lamp. If they’re dirty or warped, you’re basically throwing away 30% of your heat.
Making sure it actually fits
